  • What’s Happening Around Downtown in May?

    brown_new_boothMay is here and it is going to be a busy month for us Downtown. The month kicks off with Art After Dark the first night of May to set the pace for a big run of events in the coming weeks. Downtown is looking forward to our signature events including Mother’s Day Flower Giveaway, Law Enforcement Night, Public Works Night and our beloved Downtown Brown’s Birthday! We are also excited to be rolling out with our Science Technology Engineering Arts and Mathematics section of Downtown SLO Farmers’ Market, STEAM Alley on Garden Street. Another new addition to the market is the continuation of our Fresh Picked Concert Series on our Harvest Stage at the East end of the market.

  • Downtown Business Buzz


    A  new women’s fashion boutique Heavenly Couture just opened its doors at 770 Higuera Street.  The retail store specializes in clothing, accessories and shoes for women.

    Lush will be opening soon in the Court Street Plaza.  The international fresh handmade cosmetic company makes bath and beauty products from fresh, organic fruit and vegetables, the finest essential oils and safe synthetics.  And moving in next to Pluto’s Restaurant on Chorro Street will be Sweetie Cup Tea House.

    There are also lots of improvement projects taking shape around Downtown.  Bath & Body Works in Downtown SLO reopened after an extensive remodel.  The store located at 842 Higuera Street spruced up its look from the inside out with new floors, paint, decor, displays and signage.  Cowboy Cookie & Grub is undergoing a facelift with new flooring, reorganization of their display cases and much more.  They are open during the renovations and expect to complete the work in the next few weeks.

  • Gear Up for Bike Month!

    Bike-Month-2015-e1424991488600Gear up for Bike Month in May!  The campaign kicks off on Friday, May 1, with a bike-themed Art After Dark in Downtown San Luis Obispo.  There are events happening all month long including breakfasts, Bike-In Movie nights, Bike Challenge and a chance to win a new bike!     Also, the San Luis Obispo Downtown Association is partnering with SLO Regional Rideshare to sponsor a bicycle-themed window decorating contest during May. The public can vote on the best window online through the month of May in three categories: Most Creative, Most Inspiring and Most Technical. The winner will be recognized at rideshare.org, on all social media channels and at the Bike Month Blowout Party on June 4 at Downtown SLO Farmers’ Market.

Great American Main Street Award Winner

San Luis Obispo, California was awarded The Great American Main Street Award in 1999 by the National Trust For Historic Preservation. Since 1995, this esteemed award has been presented to five US Cities each year, recognizing them for their successful preservation-based downtown revivals.

Old SLO Trolley

Trolley service is provided from both of the parking structures and at convenient locations within the Downtown core approximately every 15 minutes. The fare is 50 cents. Hours of operation are:

  • Thursdays - 5 to 9 p.m. - Year Round
  • Fridays - 5 to 9 p.m. - June-Labor Day
  • Saturday - 5 to 9 p.m. - April - October
