  • What’s Up Around Downtown in September?

September_JournalEach year our town undergoes a rather dramatic transformation during September. Not only do we get a change of seasons we get a change of pace as parents get settled in with their children starting classes again, harvest season arrives and college students move into our neighborhoods. It can be said that Autumn is the season of fullness; fullness with the bounty from orchards and gardens, fullness with our schedules as classes begin and vacations subside and fullness in our neighborhoods and streets as new students learn what it means to be a community member.

  • Downtown Association Supports The Friends of Prado Day Center

FriendsCheckSan Luis Obispo Downtown Association helped to present a check to the Friends of Prado Day Center in the sum of $8,500 earlier this week. The funds were generated from a collaborative effort among many different stakeholders at the City of San Luis Obispo, United Way of San Luis Obispo County and the San Luis Obispo Downtown Association. The three organizations formed and continue to operate as a group known as “The Directed Giving Campaign” with the purpose of helping homeless people in need of assistance, to get back into stable living situations.  The group has been working to create awareness about the negative impacts of panhandling and provide an alternative through donation stations. Since late April, they have been able to get seven donation stations installed and sponsored throughout Downtown.

The check presentation to Friends of Prado Day Center is proof that each little donation of change can add up to be a big support for essential service providers in the community. The continued support from the community is helping more people each day get closer to that goal. Whether it’s the change in your pocket after lunch or credit card charge to support the Make Change Count Meters, it’s helping.  For more information on “Make Change Count” campaign and how you can participate, click here.
