Downtown News

  • What’s Happening Around Downtown in February?

There are many different names I hear used to describe some of our most noticeable population in Downtown, those names being “homeless” and “transient.” Oftentimes I take pause when I hear the names, not because of the people being described but due to the context in which the names are used. In light of several recent events and the resulting concern of business owners’ and fear expressed by would be shoppers, I feel compelled to clarify a few key points about this demographic of our community. I would also like to address how we, as an organization, are working to resolve associated issues.  Read More

  • Does Your Business Have Security Cameras?
DTA_LOGOA Message from Downtown Association Executive Director Regarding Security Cameras

We enjoy a lifestyle in one of the safest communities in our country but even to that point our local businesses are still at risk for criminal activity. As other communities address increasing pressures from criminals the criminals are looking for easier communities to commit crimes in. As such, San Luis Obispo has seen the effects of this in the last several months and residents and business owners like you have expressed great concerns to the Downtown Association office and the San Luis Obispo Police Department.

The SLO PD has asked me to help them identify security cameras in Downtown businesses in an effort to help catch and successfully prosecute criminals. The message should be clear to would be criminals that this is a community that will not tolerate anti-social behavior and that our businesses and local law enforcement will work collectively to keep it that way.

Today, I ask you to help this community stay safe. If you have a security camera in your business please let me know so that I can help build a list of businesses that are willing to stand together against crime. In your response please indicate the name of your business, address, number of cameras and provide your best contact information. You may email your response to Dominic@DowntownSLO.com, call 805-541-0286 or stop by our office located at 1108 Garden Street, Suite 210.
